In order to do some background research into short films I watched many different ones on 'Short of the Week'. This is the only platform that I could think off in order to watch many different short films as they are no longer showed anywhere else like on TV or in the cinema. Although you can watch short films on youtube the short of the film only has professional short films uploaded onto it, also the website places all of the films into different categories which makes it a lot easier to find the type of film that you want to watch.

One of the first short films I watched was The Root of the Problem, this film showed me that due to only having a short amount of time to get a story line in every scene has to have a meaning to it, there was also not a massive amount of speech during the film explaining what is going on, the actions taken place throughout the film give a larger insight into what is occurring. As soon as the film starts the mise en scene and sound effects give an insight into the fact the film isn't going to be happy and upbeat.

Another short film that I have watched is 'Stop'. This is another example of how short films don't have a large amount of talking in them as the actions of what was occurring told the story of the short film rather than what the actors were saying. However due to the lighting it was hard to make out what was occurring a lot of the time which lead to me being unable to follow the storyline.
