In order to get an idea of what conventions short film posters have I have looked at previous professional work. By analysing pervious short film and film posters I can then become familiar with the features that are used and what I need to add to my own short film poster that I am going to create.
As short films aren't very popular it was hard to find short film posters that were professional and not just a students work. Hence why I have used major film posters also as they have been successful which shows the conventions that the poster included were successful.
This film poster is one of my favourites that I have looked at as it is the most fitting to my short film. The wording at the top of the woods could say 'trust no one' which gives the audience an insight into the fact that someone during the film is going to break someone else's trust which is further denotes by the title of the film 'Betrayed'. As the ending of my film is also situated in the woods I could have Hannah walking into the woods without showing Maisie behind her so throughout the film the audience will be awake of the fact that the location is going to change from the school environment that it is in at the begging to the woods where something will occur. I don't want my film poster to look as dark and grey as this as it still needs to be appealing to my target audience so will have some colour in it in order to attract teenagers as they see it. The title of this poster almost looks like it is wind swept however I want mine to be just as dominant as it was at the start of my film.
The typical conventions of the poster is having all over the credits at the bottom in the centre as your eyes tend to follow the poster down so these will be one of the last things that are seen however they are below the main title which means they are still going to be read.
Another mystery film poster that I liked was this one, as it clearly shows that there are three main characters in the film with the two most dominant characters being female. If I used the same conventions as this poster I would have Hannah as the girl that you can see an outline of, Lilly as the girl who has the close up as she is the deceiving character throughout the film. The 'black hoodie' will then be the shadow as the film gives suggests that he is the person sending the unknown text messages and remains unknown throughout the film as they got Lilly to do the killing for them. However this poster would be harder to use as inspiration as a lot more editing would need to to take place, also since filming Lilly has had her hair dyed blonde which means that the imagine taken now would look different to how she looks during the film, which may lead to confusion and show the poster and film have all been created during different time periods.
