Film Poster Progress

As well as creating a short film my course work also involved creating a film poster and double page spread. Like shown in my last post in order to create my short film poster I did some research into other film and short film posters that had been created in order to ensure that I was using features that were going to be conventional. The poster that I used in order see what conventions had been used and worked successfully is the one below.

I choose to use this film poster rather than any others as I felt like it was the most fitting to my short film.

When creating my poster I started the editing process on iPhoto as I used the filters that they have last year on my music magazine so knew which ones that I liked and how to use the editing system. Last year I did try to use different software's like photo shop however found that they were too complicated and there were other apps that were more simple that were able to do what i wanted to achieve also.

This image is the original imagine where there has not been any filters added to it.

The second image has a filter on it called 'instant', I also slightly enhanced the picture but not massively.

This image is the one that I decided to use as the final image for the poster. The filter that I used on it is called 'transfer'. I also made the picture brighter, increase the colour saturation it it and enhanced it a lot more than I had done on the previous picture above.

Once the editing of the image was finished I went onto adding text to the image, previously I used pixlr when creating my music magazine however the software is hard to use and does not let you undo anything. I also choose not to use this software again as the only thing I was going to be adding to my picture was text and I didn't like many of the font choices that pixlr has to offer. This time I simply added my images onto pages and added my text to the image through the use of text boxes. I looked at many different font websites online in order to find the text that I thought would look best on my poster this involved a lot of searching and downloading of texts. My poster had many different fonts and font colours added to it before I got to the final result.

This was the very first draft that I created of my short film poster, however there are many different things that I didn't like about it. The like 'Dont trust anyone' is missing the ' from don't however I did start using pixlr in order to add the text so once this had been added I was unable to edit it once again. I also don't like the phrase so on my second draft chose to change it to something that sounded more interesting. The font and colour of the title of the film 'Betrayed' does not stand out as much as it should, the font of the word is very basic I also faded the word slightly which then prevents it from being as bold as it should. The colour of the word does not fit in with the colour scheme of anything else that is on the image. Due to being on pages the names that it doesn't recognise red lines are shown under them which I have failed to remove.

There are two main changes that I have occurred from the last picture is the font and colour of the headings. Ive also changed 'don't trust anyone' to 'trust no one' as i felt like it sounded more engaging and interesting. I liked the font styles of the 'Trust No One' however when gaining audience feedback many people commented on the fact that the top of the letters had been cut off. I personally liked this effect as it denoted the fact that the trust had been cut just like the top of the letters had however many people thought that they had been cut off by mistake during the editing process which shows that the fact the top of the letters had been cut off just looked odd. I changed the font of the word 'Betrayed' to something that is more bold however the letters were all very close together which meant that they did not stretch out over a lot of the poster, I tried to make it bigger however it enlarged it width ways which has then lead to the credits at the bottom being pushed lower on the poster cutting the web address off.

The changes that have been made to this poster is the font of the 'Trust No One' it is much more dominant and is a lot more readable as from the audience feedback gained people also said that they were unable to read it and only noticed it at second glance. The word 'Betrayed' is also a lot more dominant with the font being a lot more fitting to the genre, the letters being bigger and spaces at length and width ways, rather than just width like the previous poster, causes it to be the most dominate aspect of the post. The off white/ to grey colour is also a lot more fitting to the colour scheme of the poster in comparison to the purple colour used before. I did try to match the colour of the wording to the colour of the sky however didn't like the outcome that I obtained. The credits have been the one aspect of the poster that have been changed the least however this time they are no longer cut off the bottom of the poster and the read line from the names that pages did not recognise has been removed.
